What can Block Downpipes?

Do you have many trees in your garden? There is a lot of debris that can end up in gutters and in the downpipes. Older downpipes may also corrode or have cracks. Leaves, dirt, smaller sticks, insects, and materials can build up. This creates a blockage in the pipe.

Do you clear your gutters, regularly?

Flushing Downpipes

Take off any attachments from your garden hose and feed it down the pipe. Move it up and down. This can flush out the debris.

Pressure Hose

The added water pressure can help to flush out the debris. However, you will not be able to move it as far along (past the swan neck). If the blockage is lower it might not work.

Dismantling the Downpipe

Taking it apart, section by section will allow you to find the blockage and clear it by hand. It is not recommended to try this for older downpipes. You do not want to damage them or find that you can’t fit them back properly.
